John Christopher Upton 歐啟祥 (2021.8.1-2022.6.15)

Bio: J. Christopher Upton (Ph.D., Anthropology, Indiana University, 2020) is a MOST Postdoctoral Scholar at the Center for World Austronesia and Indigenous Peoples. As a legal anthropologist, his research interests include Indigenous rights, Indigenous and Tribal courts, human rights, and social justice in Taiwan. He is currently working on a book manuscript, entitled Boundary Institutions: Law, Multiculturalism, and the Innovation of Indigenous Courts in Taiwan. His work has appeared in a variety of publications, including Law & Social Inquiry, Society & Natural Resources, and the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology Working Paper Series, and he has forthcoming works in edited volumes and encyclopedias on Indigenous Studies and Taiwan Studies. Prior to his PhD, he practiced law at an international law firm, where he specialized in antitrust, project finance, and human rights.
